ELF magnetic field waves associated with lightning

While browsing Google Images for extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic field waves, similar to what I see with energy healing, I found this example:

This magnetic field wave looks like a chirp wave, similar to what I observe during bioenergetic activities, although only one half of a biological wave.

ELF electromagnetic fields in the 0 – 100 Hz range can have biological actions, with recent interest in the use of ELF-EMFs for disease treatment (Tian et al., 2023).  It is interesting that lightning can emit ELF magnetic field waves.

The researchers were able to localize this particular magnetic field wave to one lightning strike over Africa. Lightning strikes are often called ‘whistlers’, because they produce radio waves in the 1kHz to 30kHz range, which have a whistling sound.  In addition to radio waves, lightning produces broadband electromagnetic field waves, including ELF.  It is quite a technological achievement to capture the signature of a single ELF magnetic field wave amidst the complex dynamics of a thunderstorm.

How did they do it?  This magnetic field wave was recorded with a magnetometer (ELF, 0-100Hz) on a SWARM satellite, which travels through the ionosphere (Coisson et al., 2020).  The diagram below (Strumik et al, 2021) shows the pairs of SWARM satellites travelling through the ionosphere.  These satellites are designed to study the Earth’s magnetic field and plasma ionosphere, but also any terrestrial phenomena that produce magnetic field waves.  ELF magnetic field waves can travel long distances, hence, they were detected by the pair of SWARM satellites.

 

A series of experiments have examined the possible role of lightning in the early development of life on Earth.  The Miller-Urey experiment in 1952 found that lightning in vitro can produce amino acids and amines from simple inorganic compounds.  More recently, Jiang et al. (2024) showed that lightning-induced plasma electrochemistry can generate high concentrations of nitrogen- and carbon-containing compounds relevant to emergent life.

Many people note that they feel better after a thunderstorm. The sound of the rain and the release of negative ions in the air have beneficial physiological actions, but perhaps the ELF magnetic field waves of lightning are also contributing to the healing effect?
